Following Christmas, it comes to the time of year to laugh out loud and colleagues and friends who go away for a week and come back with a facial tan of that resembling a giant panda! Of course you have been working they have had a fun packed week of skiing, snowboarding and general good fun in the snow. So where do you go for this fun packed holiday?
If you don’t want to travel into Europe, America or Canada for your first foray into skiing, why not try Scotland. The recent cold spell has given some Scottish resorts the best snow they have had in years. Also, if some of your party isn’t into skiing, there is plenty to see and do for non-skiers. Spring2 takes a look at two of the best in Scotland.
CairGorme Mountain
Approximately 1.5 metres or 5ft of snow has now fallen on the upper slopes since Christmas and with temperatures forecast to remain at or below freezing for the next week at least, this is a great time to come and enjoy some awesome snowsports, with excellent cover form top to bottom and the whole hill available to explore. The snow is dry and crunchy on the pisted runs, the M1 and Cas have perfectly groomed powder and the top bowls are pisted virtually from fence to fence.

Skiing, terrain park, snowboarding and sledging are all available subject to conditions. There are over 30km of ski runs and a fully maintained snow board fun park, suitable for all levels from beginner to expert. Cross Country, telemark, ski touring and ski mountaineering are also available from specialist operators. There is a recognised ski school that operates on site and Disability Snowsports UK also offer lessons for those with special needs.
Opening times
First funicular 9am but other surface uplift will usually operate from half an hour earlier. The last funicular goes up at 3.20pm and last one down at 4.00pm. Do call ahead to check availability with the Mountain Resort as in certain conditions some areas may be closed due to risk of avalanche or the access road is closed the whole resort will be closed.
The Lecht
Lecht 2090 is at 2090 feet above sea level amid the beauty of the Eastern Cairngorms. This natural playground offers exciting outdoor activities: Winter season and Summer season Facilities at the centre include a chairlift rising to 2,500 ft, Deval Karts, Tubing, Skiing, Snowboarding, Quad Bikes, Fun Karts, Kiddies Karts etc. The Lecht Ski Centre is aimed at all levels of skier and is ideal for all the family, intermediate and beginner skiers.
The new lodge houses all the facilities in one building including a self service café and a top floor bar, all with views over the ski slopes. Wi-fi internet access is available for the non skiers.
The main runs all are complete new groomed snow. There is ample nursery area.Tows will operate subject to demand and there is a dusting offresh snow
Straddling the A939 on the famous Cockbridge to Tomintoul road, Lecht 2090 is easily reached from Speyside and Aviemore, Donside and Aberdeen and also Royal Deeside and Perth To book tickets or to enquire about snow conditions contact the Lecht Team.
If you don’t have your own equipment, you can hire everything for skiing in both resorts , snowboarding and sledging on the mountain including outer clothing, except, hats, gloves and goggles but these can be bought in the mountain shop.
