Even a drive through Chatsworth Park never ceases to take your breath away, whatever the time of year as you drive through the estate , (go slow, sheep don't have much road sense!) your first view of the house is picture postcard, it's so good, it certain light it looks more light an oil painting that hangs inside the house.
This year more of the house is open to the public after years of painstaking work and restoration, funded by the Chatsworth House Trust. There is a new visitor route through the house, including newly restored galleries, displays of rare treasures, a restored stone courtyard at the heart of the house and elegant new displays celebrating the legendary Duchess Georgiana. In addition there is a free exhibition with house entry, celebrating the 90th birthday of Deborah Devonshire, the present Dowager Duchess, whose life has been a miniature history of the 20th century.
Chatsworth's tradition of welcoming every visitor warmly continues in 2010, with more free daily talks in the house, garden and farmyard. Visitors are encouraged to quiz our friendly team to discover more about the intriguing people and events that have shaped Chatsworth's history over five centuries.
In the garden there are new sculpture commissions and ever more varied seasonal colours and plantings to discover.
