Nestled in Dorset close to the New Forest is an unusual property that brings a distinctive futuristic flair to the area. 'Saturn' is a space-age home that's all flowing lines and curves - as though a spaceship has touched down in the heart of Dorset.Every wall of this wave-shaped house is curved and it's these curves and circles that help give it its futuristic feel, not to mention helped inspire its name.
The property is ensconced on the Avon Castle estate - an upmarket private enclave on the edge of the New Forest, two miles from Ringwood and 10 from the Dorset coast.Once the grounds of a country house, today it is a patchwork of lanes and high hedges that plays host to a growing collection of exclusive, multi-million pound homes.Saturn was constructed by builder Kevin Fround, 45, with a little help from wife Sam, 42, and daughters Charlotte, 13, and Lucy, 12.
Approaching the property the first thing a visitor is greeted by is a set of ubiquitous security gates.Breach this defence however and you are greeted by an unexpected sight - a large curvaceous white wall.Virtually featureless, apart from a few tiny windows and a thin strip of glass at the entrance, it gives no clue as to what lies within.
Passing through the front door opens up a world of glass as you enter the 10,000 sq ft property's stunning 30ft high glass atrium. This vast expanse of tinted glass, which cost £350,000, offers delightful views across the treetops of the Avon Valley to the New Forest itself.Cherrywood stairs complete with stainless steel banisters lead up to the next floor, which is taken up by a bespoke open-plan 'Nolte' kitchen/dining/family room.
Like much of the rest of the house, the kitchen embraces curviness, focussing around a huge crescent-shaped granite worktop.Similarly, the large living room is also a haven for curved lines, with a curved glass walls offering panoramic views. Even the sofa is curved.
However, the biggest wow factor of the property can be found just off the vast living area, with folding doors opening onto a gallery overlooking a stunning pool room.Like a moat that hugs the curved wall of the house, this heated, sky-blue infinity pool looks out onto a circular patio area outside.Illuminated by Lutron uplighters and downlighters, the area even boasts a 52in screen television built into the wall.
The property also manages to fit in five ensuite bedrooms, all of which boast floor to ceiling windows and excellent views. The master suite also benefits from a dressing room and a glass balcony. There are also no shortage of other 'play' rooms, including a cinema room, a gym, a sauna and a wet room.
And for those keen on entertaining an underground garage the size of a car park means there won't ever be a shortage of parking. There's even a spot out front that can be used as a helicopter pad.
